- Earlier this year ,Karnataka assembly speaker disqualified some MLAs on ground of defection and banned them from contesting election until the life of the current assembly.
- The Election commission has agreed to defer by-election to 15 of 17 assembly seats in karnataka until Supreme court decides the fate of the defectors.
- The Tenth schedule (Anti defection law) has a lot of gray areas,it provides the speaker complete authority to decide on defection ,but if decision were found to be in malafide intent ,then the aggrieved MLAs can approach the court.Using this clause ,the MLAs petitioned in supreme court against the speaker's decision.
- Instead of the courts or speakers deciding the fate of defectors, let them contest again and let people of their constituency decide their fate.
2) Childhoods lost in a troubled paradise:

- Numerous schools have been shut down and occupied by army since 1990s this has led to destruction of educational infrastructure
- The situation must have worsened since Aug 5 clampdown on kashmir, if media reports of torture and detention of juveniles are to be believed .
- Crippling educational infrastructure added with unlawful detentions of youths ,leaves a lifelong impact on children ,perpetuating a cycle of trauma ,fear and bitterness.

- Also the detainment and confinement of Juveniles with adults is in direct violation of Article 14(4) of ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) as well as in violation of NCPCR (National Commission for Protection of Child Rights) norms.
- Conscious of its obligation as the guaranteer of fundamental rights of the citizens, the Supreme court has taken upon itself task of inquring the allegations of state violence against Children
- No curbs on democratic rights on the promise of development can justify the inhumane treatment of children.
