1) The slow climb to the trillion economy peak

• This article strongly expresses that growth without development will lead to disaster
• All the tall claims of 5 trillion economy if not adequately translated to human capital formation will not yield a long term growth
• If current trends continue,the five trillion economy even if achieved will mean that top 10% will take up the biggest chunk of the gdp leaving the 90% trailing at bottom
• The expenditure of government on education  stands at 4 % of gdp and 1% of gdp of health,these are abysmal figures and unbecoming of a high growth economy
• Similarly depreciation of environment to meet short term growth targets will ultimately render millions of poor Indians vulnerable to vagaries of climate change
• Before aiming for high ambitious targets ,the government has to start resolving problems at hand , the current problem of economic slowdown was a reflection of difficulties faced by MSME  , agriculture and other unorganized sector works.
• The government must enhance its public expenditure,incentivize labor intensive sectors ,increase MGNREGA allocation,fill up the vacancy in government jobs ,only such Keynesian model could revive the economy
• The government's piecemeal measures and interest rates reduction will not solve the root of crisis ,an active program that helps human capital formation is the need of the hour

2) Israel Pakistan ties a bridge too far

• Recently there is a talk among diplomatic and strategic circles in Islamabad and TelAviv to open diplomatic communication between Pakistan and Israel
• Israel ever since its inception wanted to gain diplomatic engagement with all possible countries
• Although Israel was not diplomatically well received in its early days due to Palestine occupation issues, many countries started recognizing Israel in the later part of the 20th century.
• Yet Israel is not recognized by many Muslim countries, Among the Arab and gulf countries ,only Turkey ,Jordan and  Egypt has established diplomatic ties with Israel.
• India established full diplomatic ties with  Israel in 1992,the same year Israel opened its diplomatic ties with China.
• India and Israel both democracies found in each other a strategic and economic partner ,both have been the victims of terror attacks  and thus share a resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the world.
• Israel is now keen on improving its influence to other Asian countries,it has already established diplomatic ties with some southeast Asian countries
• Now Israel in its bid to shed the anti Islamic label  wants to establish diplomatic ties with populous Muslim countries in Asia such as Bangladesh , Indonesia and Pakistan.

• Pakistan although long desirous of diplomatic ties with Israel as Israel has a strong lobby in the USA, however a relationship with Israel will mean Pakistan losing its Islamic credentials
• Besides Pakistan is a known sponsor of terror and provider of security to many Muslim monarchs in the gulf region ,its vocal rhetoric for Kashmir Muslims in OIC (Organization of Islamic Countries) will sound meaningless if it were to sacrifice rights of Palestine Muslims in exchange for diplomatic ties with Israel
•  Iran's rising power in the middle east region has changed the narrative of conflict from Jew Muslim conflict to Sunni Shia conflict and hence Israel and gulf countries had come together but Pakistan despite being  a Sunni majority country , has a long border with Iran and hence has little room  to maneuver
• Thus a diplomatic ties between Israel and Pakistan at present seems a far fetched dream.

3) Undesirable and divisive, pitch for Hindi as National language

• Home Minister Amit shah who also serves as head in charge of department of official language in a recent address at Hindi Diwas celebration pitched for greater use of Hindi as official language
• But he did not stop there and continued that Hindi alone could unite the country and it was the language that should become India's identity globally,this statement was condemned by prominent South Indian leaders
• While the development of Hindi is undoubtedly a constitution command under article 351 which  the union government cannot ignore,but the manner in which it is done should not give the impression to the states that there is creeping imposition of Hindi
• It would be disastrous for the country's famed diversity if the promotion of Hindi is considered a step towards a "One Nation One language" kind of unity.

4) Avoidable boat tragedy,on Godavari boat capsizing incident

• The recent tragic incident of  capsizing of a boat in Godavari river points out to the fact that Andhra pradesh Government has learned nothing from similar tragedies of the past
• The post tragedy rhetoric of ex Gratia compensation and deterrent action is back but there is no promising measures to prevent such tragedies in the future
• Time and again,the inexperienced crew and the craving tourists are left unregulated
• A similar accident on Krishna river during Chandrababu Naidu's tenure as CM has compelled him to take action and to setup a committee
• The committee in its report highlighted the lack of coordination among the various Government departments as a major reason for the tragedies
• The committee suggested making the directorate of ports as a nodal agency and the AP inland vessel rules were brought into effect,  nobody knows what happened to their rules and other decisions
• To prevent such man made tragedies in the future, the government must pin responsibility on officials instead of resorting to mere palliative steps.
